Aunt Bessie's / Upgrade

Show / Hide

The nosey old ladies are back for VCCP's latest Aunt Bessie’s spot - ‘Upgrade’ - which has been directed by Tantrum’s Matt Lipsey and post-produced here at Freefolk. The film was graded by Paul Harrison, with Steve Murgatroyd on Flame.

Paul Harrison says “The brief was to look bright and sunny on the exteriors, but juxtapose that against the moody, cool, dark vibe in the surveillance-van.”

Returning for the next installment of the comedic campaign, chaos ensues as the dear old ladies snoop upon the neighbourhood from a not-so-subtle bright pink surveillance van. They spy upon the local dinner tables but things take a turn for the worse they spot the neighbours using Aunt Bessie’s products. In their dismay, the intrusive duo are fired high into the sky when poor Mable inadvertently slips on a poorly located ejector button!

Steve Murgatroyd adds “Matt Lipsey and Ben Smith, the Art Director, did a great job and it made the campaign an absolute treat to work on. The ejection scene was the trickiest element, which involved us creating CG smoke and animating the descent. We also had to create a look for the periscope POV shot and the thermal imaging as well as some embellishing here and there. It was a really brilliant project, if only I could just stop saying ‘She’s serving roast chicken with Yorkshires…’"
