House of Fraser / Turn It On
We worked closely with director Dave Meyers at Radical Media and the creative team, Anna Carpen and Alex Delaney, at 18 Feet & Rising for the unusual and exciting project.
VFX Supervisor Judy Roberts comments, 'We were tasked with creating Glitch Art effects to tell the story of colour awakening through the piece. Although we started initial testing prior to shooting, the actual nature of the glitches really evolved once we had a graded edit to work with.'
On getting the grade right, Colourist Duncan Russell says, 'The director Dave Meyers and creative Alex Delaney were keen to explore a few possibilities in this grade. We decided that we needed two grades for the entire spot. A monochrome and a colour pass. It was only after the online that I could see how the two would cut together, the relationship between the two was critical.
After that point we could more accurately play with the grade. The general vibe was for the spot to burst out of itself, from deep mono to fresh spring colours. The colours, when they arrive, are warm, not too clinical and the feel, while very refreshing, was not too pushed. I'm really happy with the way it came out and it was a pleasure working with Alex, Russell and Dave.'
Judy sums up the project 'With the brief being to create something new and different, and with the constraints of tight deadline, this was challenging but a lot of fun.'
