Director Pedro Martin-Calero presents an enigmatic and eerie interpretation of the time the inhabitants of a small Kazakhstani village mysteriously fell asleep for days at a time.
Made for Channel 4’s Random Acts shorts, ‘You are Awake’ is based on events that took place in Kalachi, Kazakhstan. The mysterious beauty of the Avorez Islands is accentuated by the grade from Colourist Julien Biard. Nuke artist Kayley Fernandes adds to Pedro Martin-Calero’s already unsettling shots with facial distortion.
Kayley states ‘Whilst the majority of the incredibly mysterious locations held their own, it was a lot of fun working on some extra eerie effects for some of the shots.
‘It was great to work with Pedro and Corin (Producer) at Colonel Blimp, who were happy for us to experiment with a few ideas especially for the really creepy faceless screaming man.’
