Ballantines / Stay True/Could Be True

Show / Hide

Devised by M&C Saatchi, Edward Housden from Indy8 directs us on a pair of brief tours across Ballantine’s history – one slightly more truthful than the other. The online only films were graded here at Freefolk by Julien Biard with Andy Copping on Flame.

‘Stay True’ tells the story of how the Ballantine’s brand passed successfully from generation to generation to ensure the brand stayed true to its heritage, whilst surviving the prohibition era and fending off criminals.

Andy comments “It was really nice to work on two films which had different tones, one being comical and the other factual. Nearly every shot in both films had some degree of post work to them, and it was an enjoyable experience to work with Ed again.”

Narrated in a similar style to ‘Stay True’, ‘Could Be True’ is an amusing exploration of events that could – but definitely didn’t – happen throughout the brand’s history. It’s a bleak outlook for Ballantine’s in this tale as the brand can’t survive prohibition, fails to stay true to its heritage and attempts a garish 21st century relaunch, prompting the return of an ironic classic blend. With only five master blenders throughout Ballantine’s history, it’s only naturally for the sixth to be an online competition winner in this fabricated account.
